The Huron High School Orchestra Program has a rich history of musical excellence. Huron High School is located in Ann Arbor, MI, near the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Engineering, and Medical Campuses, and serves a diverse population of approximately 1,750 students. Ranked as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the U.S. by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, Ann Arbor is a culturally rich community with access to world-class musicians and teachers. The students of the Huron Orchestras have worked closely with many guest artists including: Apollo’s Fire, Martha Graham Ballet Company, Evan Chambers, Kenneth Keisler, and Joshua Gersen and Michael Adelson of the New York Philharmonic. The Huron High School Music department has been recognized several times by the GRAMMY Foundation as among the most outstanding High School Music Departments in the country.

The Huron Symphony Orchestra has performed in world-class venues throughout North America and China including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall (NY), Hill Auditorium (MI), Chicago Symphony Hall (IL), and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center (China). Along with guest musicians from China and members of the Chicago music community, the orchestra was featured in a special collaborative concert in Chicago’s Millennium Park in 2018. This collaboration, entitled “Friendship Lasts Forever,” celebrated Chinese and American friendship through musical performance. In 2015, the Symphony Orchestra was invited to perform in an 11 day, 5 city tour of China including performances in Beijing, Xuzhou, and Shanghai, among others. The Symphony Orchestra has been recognized for their outstanding program and musicianship in the National School Orchestra Championship, and as the most outstanding orchestra at the Chicago Masters of Music Festival. Additionally, the Symphony Orchestra is frequently selected to perform at both state and International Conferences, including seven invitations to the Michigan Music Conference and four invitations to the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Symphony Orchestra has been commissioned to premiere new works to celebrate anniversaries at both the Midwest Clinic in Chicago (70th annual), and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (50th annual).

The Huron Orchestra Program is comprised of four curricular ensembles and an extracurricular chamber orchestra serving 175 string students. Members of the Concert, Symphony and Chamber Orchestras are often augmented with wind, brass and percussion students from the award-winning Band Program. Huron Orchestra students earn top ratings at the District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals, Band and Orchestra Festivals, as well as participation in the Michigan All-State Orchestra. Each August, students from the entire orchestra program travel to the beautiful campus of the Interlochen Center for the Arts (MI) for a transformative week-long orchestra camp experience.
